Penibagosek: “When it is October” - With VLT - Abenaki History and Story at Wantastegok

Penibagosek – “When it is October”  (pronounced peh nee BAH goo seck)

Offered as part of the Vermont Land Trust’s Annual Meeting celebration. Pre-registration requested here.

It has been said that when Space is overlaid with Culture, it creates Place. There are many concurrent stories embedded in the Land, and every Place is different. Although the stories of each Place still speak their truths, they may not be heard clearly outside of the cultural context that enlivened them. We will explore what it means to listen to the Land and Water, and to build a reciprocal relationship with this Place, Wantastegok.

If you are curious about the Elnu Abenaki’s connection to Wantastegok (Brattleboro) and a tiny piece of land at the mouth of the West River, this is the event for you. We will learn about the rich history of this place and the people who have lived here for thousands of years.

Trip Leaders:

• Rich Holschuh, Director, Atowi Project
• Pieter van Loon, Lead Forester, Vermont Land Trust
